The Department of Engineering Mathematics and Humanities has its existence since the inception (1980) of the college. The academic environment, the infrastructure, the dedicated highly qualified and experienced faculty members motivated the intellectual acumen of the students and also transform every budding engineering student into an eligible aspiring professional youth. We are offering courses for all four years of B. Tech & in First Year of M.Tech on par with other Engineering Departments in our Institution. It is well known fact that Mathematics and Humanities are the integral part of technical education.
Having enough number doctoral degree holders, Research commitment and competence is initiated and going on in the department. The department was recognized as a Research center by JNTUK, Kakinada. The Mathematics Faculty are guiding Ph.D’s & M.Phil’s. Six members awarded Ph.D’s, six people awarded with M. Phil’s, two people submitted their Ph.D. Thesis & eleven scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. & M.Phil., under the guidance of the department faculty. An Indo – Israel collaborative research project was sanctioned for which Prof. R. Subba Rao of the department is a Co –P.I. and he also acted as coordinator for three more projects of the Center for Research and Development (CRD) of the institution.
Members of the department has an objective to provide a reasonably strong Mathematical and Physical background in the correct perceptive in the methods and techniques of Applied Mathematics, Statistics and Discrete Mathematical structure to Engineering Students of different disciplines. Owing to the presence of dedicated and experienced faculty, it is reasonably achieved high standards by the faculty of Mathematics in handling the related Mathematical courses to all programs of B. Tech & M. Tech.
Teaching English for the B. Tech students is aimed at imparting effective communication skills in English with a view of moulding them to flourish in their career. To meet the ever growing challenges of globalization and to improve the competence and communication ability of the students apart from their academics, a Soft Skills Laboratory course in English has been designed at B. Tech level to improve the performance of the students in campus placements.
The management courses are aimed at enriching the knowledge of the students regarding entrepreneurship, managerial skills and organization behavior. These courses help to improve the professional prospects of the future engineers / technocrats. Members of the department are handling different courses related to Economics, Accountancy and Managerial aspects besides interdisciplinary courses like Industrial Engineering and Management.
The major goal for environmental education program is to raise consciousness about environmental conditions and to teach environmentally appropriate behavior. The environmental education that will prepare the next generation to plan appropriate strategies for addressing issues such as urban sprawl at a local level while still maintaining focus of the challenges that globalization presents on an international level.
Knowledge about the environment is not an end, but rather a beginning. Knowledge about environment promotes attitudinal behavioral change. Therefore, environmental education is an agent of change and a step toward community empowerment. Thus environmental education teaches individuals how to weigh various sides of an issue through critical thinking and it enhances their own problem solving skills.
Inculcating Professional Ethics and Human Values in Technical Education are placed an important role in Engineering Education. So we are offering courses relating to the Environmental, Professional Ethics and Human Values. Also some of the events conducted in the department in connection with the above subjects.
Apart from the teaching department faculty are involving in Examination question paper setting & valuation of answer scripts for Autonomous colleges & Deemed Universities, Visiting other colleges as subject experts for selection of staff, delivering Guest lecturers in other colleges, offering Guidance in Research activities and conducting bridge course for Lateral entry students.
